Burt Reynolds, “Smokey and the Bandit” star, dead at 82

Actor Burt Reynolds, whose easygoing charms and handsome looks drew prominent roles in films such as "Smokey and the Bandit" and "Boogie Nights," died Thursday, September 6. He was 82 years old.

Reynolds played college football at Florida State University in the 1950s. He turned to acting when injuries derailed a promising athletic career.
